You can now walk into any T-Mobile retail store, or hit their online store, and pick up the world’s hottest Windows Mobile 6.5 handset. Well, actually, you might be able to put the HTC HD2’s massive 4.3-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen in your pocket if you can find one. Reports are rolling in from around the web that the T-Mobile HTC HD2...

The March 24th launch date for the US variant of the HTC HD2 is closing in and we’re just days away from seeing the king of all Windows Mobile phones hitting the streets in all its big-screened glory. That also means T-Mobile ( NYSE: DT ) stores across the country have already begun to stock HD2 inventory. For most of you, it’s all about playing the waiting game from here on in. For one lucky HD2 fan, though, the wait is over –...

There’s a lot of chatter going on right now about whether or not cut-and-paste and true multi-tasking will ever make it into Microsoft ( NSDQ: MSFT )’s Windows Phone 7 Series platform. Well, today Microsoft themselves are getting a little more official – if just as vague – on the whole issue of which features may, or may not, make the cut for WP7. The folks at Redmond confirmed to Engadget today that the future of cut-and-paste...

Microsoft’s always surprising. First, CEO Steve Ballmer praises Apple’s App Store and now another executive said Apple ( NSDQ: AAPL )’s patent lawsuit against HTC “is not necessarily a bad thing.” During a speech about copyright last week, Brad Smith, Microsoft ( NSDQ: MSFT )’s general counsel and senior VP, said the lawsuit can help determine the proper roles patents play in the smartphone space. While the...

During the latest Engadget Show , Microsoft ( NSDQ: MSFT ) showed off a prototype LG smartphone that will run Windows Phone 7 Series. Microsoft’s Aaron Woodman said the handset is a pre-production model but I wouldn’t expect it to change much before its release (which could be as early as September ). There are no finalized specs yet but Microsoft’s requirements mean it will have at least a 3.5-inch capacitive screen with multitouch,...

I thought it would be prudent to do a proper introduction as I’m the new guy and you’ll be seeing my mug around here a lot. I’m a tech reporter who’s written about mobiles for InformationWeek, CNET, Androinica, Know Your Cell and various other sites. I’ve spent a ton of time thinking about smartphones and how these can impact our daily lives …  Read More →

As if we didn’t have enough handsets at which to gawk throughout Mobile World Congress , Acer has dumped a pile of Android and Windows phones onto the table. The Liquid E is a moderate refresh on the already-popular Liquid, including Android 2.1, and keeps the delicious Snapdragon processor. The E110 was a tiny, lower-end Android handset – the size (103.5 mm x 54 mm x 13.4 mm) was almost as impressive as Sony Ericsson’s X10 Mini , and...

Microsoft will be going all out at Mobile World Congress with the unveiling of the Windows Mobile 7 OS , but they’ve still got a couple aces stuffed up their sleeve for next month – Pink-ish aces, to be exact. The FCC has just unveiled some certification documents that show what is believed to be a diagram of the “Turtle” Project Pink phone and a mention of another phone that could very possibly be the “Pure”...

A recent study by Aberdeen Group examined current and planned enterprise mobile deployments, and though BlackBerry ( NSDQ: RIMM ) is still the king of the hill, its lead is shrinking. Their projected growth in enterprise is 3% for 2010, while Windows Mobile’s is 7%, which, if accurate, would make it a 77% – 70% race between the two. RIM’s consumer market share has been exploding over the last year, so obviously their attention is just...

Microsoft ( NSDQ: MSFT ) posted the Windows Mobile 6.5 SDK on January 22 and then it was pulled a few days later. It’s being speculated that Microsoft mistakingly included Windows Mobile 6.5.3 software in the SDK and thus was the reason it was pulled. Very unprofessional, but shit happens. What’s so secret about 6.5.3? It’s more touch friendly, bigger buttons in some applications, and not much else. We’re all …  Read More →

MobileCrunch Editor John Biggs got an “insider tip” about Microsoft ( NSDQ: MSFT )’s upcoming Windows Mobile 7 operating system and it’s a hell of a read. He says that it’s going to be launched at Mobile World Congress next month, that it shares no compatibility with previous versions of Windows Mobile what so ever, customization, like what HTC does with Sense UI, will not be allowed…  Read More →

We knew HTC is working on a capacitive stylus for its high-end HD2 WinMo smartphone . Heck, we’ve even seen the patent filing back in August 2009 . And… it’s here now, ready to be purchased for 17 GBP, which translates in roughly $28. Of course, there is no place to stow a stylus inside the phone, so you’ll have to …  Read More →
